The Alderwood Mall’s Apple Store was broken into last weekend by burglars who entered through a nearby coffee shop. In order to gain access to the Apple Store backroom, burglars allegedly broke into Seattle Coffee Gear, went into the bathroom, and ripped a hole in the wall.
By exploiting the nearby coffee shop, the robbers were able to get past the security system of the Apple Store and steal a total of 436 iPhones, with a value of almost $500,000.
The layout of the Apple Store, according to Eric Marks, manager of Seattle Coffee Gear, prevents the coffee shop from being visibly next to it. With how it loops around, I never would have guessed we were close to the Apple Store’, Marks told King 5 News. Hence, someone had to carefully consider their options and be familiar with the mall’s layout.

Authorities were able to collect security video of the theft, but it hasn’t yet been made public because the video is still being used in the investigation. The coffee business wasn’t broken into, but replacing the locks and fixing the bathroom wall will cost $1,500.
Since the Alderwood Mall had closed for the evening, there was no personnel at the Apple Store when the theft occurred. Apple has not yet responded, according to a representative for Alderwood, who claimed they were cooperating with the authorities to resolve the situation.
