There is a question, Can we expect big changes for Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6?
Samsung used to corner the foldable phone market with the Z Flip and Z Fold series. But the competition is getting stronger and faster, meaning the company cannot afford it anymore. That is why all eyes are now on the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which will launch in the summer of 2024.
How will it differ from the Galaxy Z Fold 5? Will it be one of the best-selling folding phones in the world? Will it take design or hardware inspiration from the Google Pixel Fold or the OnePlus? Will its cameras compete with the best traditional smartphones? Here’s everything we’ve heard so far about the upcoming foldable device:
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 release date
Whether or not Samsung will launch the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is out of the question. Company representatives indicated that they had already started work on the Z Fold 6 series when we visited Samsung’s headquarters for the phone’s launch event. Apple still testing its foldable phone, So Samsung will surely want to extend its lead as far as possible.
Anyway, when is the Z Fold 6 coming? It is no longer known. Last year, Samsung messed things up by launching the Galaxy Z Fold 5 in July, a few weeks before the traditional August launch date:
- Galaxy Z Fold 5: Launched on July 26, 2023
- Galaxy Z Fold 4: Launched on August 10, 2022
- Galaxy Z Fold 3: Launched on August 24, 2021
- Galaxy Z Fold 2: Launched on August 5, 2020
Expect the Z Fold 6 to arrive alongside a Galaxy Z Flip 6 and possibly new Galaxy Watch wearables at a dedicated Unpacked event.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 hardware & design
We have little information about the Samsung Z Fold 6. We studied several dummy handsets used as design studies for upcoming foldable phones. All the phones have wider screens than Samsung Z Fold 5. Samsung planning to change the Fold format from ‘slim and skinny’. The camera bump and central frame do not seem to be changed. They’re now consistent with the rest of Samsung’s Galaxy phone line-up. We also see one dummy handset with a built-in S Pen stylus.
Internal Hardware
Samsung Z Fold 6 will have a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. Qualcomm and Samsung announced a ‘multi-generational’ deal as the company replaced its own Ekinos CPUs, and performance-wise it’s already shaping up to be a flagship chip. It will also introduce AI smart technologies, helping Samsung compete with Google and Apple’s AI-powered iPhone 16 Pro.
Memory, Storage, and Battery
Memory and storage options are likely to remain unchanged, while the battery capacity of Z Fold 6 will depend on its screen size. Because for large cells more space is required inside the phone. The current Z Fold 5 can only charge at 25w. The Galaxy S24 Ultra is rumored to get faster charging speeds of 65W.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Price
We don’t have any official information about the price of the Z Fold 6. According to rumors the Z Fold 6 price will be at $1,999 for 12GB + 256GB Model.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 features to be improved
We liked the Galaxy Z Fold 5, but it only got a four-star rating in our review. There are plenty of things for improvement that we feel Samsung should address. In order to make the next model score even higher, Samsung should improve the areas that are missed in the Z Fold. If these sound familiar, that’s because we had a similar wish list for the Z Fold 5 model.
A short and wide outer screen
Our wishful thinking is that Samsung should make the Z Fold 6 much more usable as a phone than a tablet. Samsung seems set on keeping the tall, skinny screen on the Galaxy Z Fold 5, but we’d love to see some different dimensions.
Camera
Foldable phones cost north of $1500/£1500 and pack a camera kit that isn’t capable as compared to other handsets costing half the price. Google also does the same thing. I think One Plus stopped the trend. We’d love to see the Z Fold 6 do the same as the OnePlus.
Spen
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 officially supports Samsung’s S Pen digital stylus. But it does not come with a box and there’s no place to store it inside the phone like on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. We understand that folding inner screens are more delicate than other phone displays. Hopefully, Samsung Z Fold 6 will have a tougher display than the Z Fold 5.
