The iPhone SE 4 is definitely a long time away - after all, the iPhone SE 3 (also known as the iPhone SE 2022) was just released in March 2022, and these aren’t even yearly releases.
However, after extended use of the iPhone SE 2022, we have a pretty good sense of what we want from the iPhone SE 4, as the present model is far from perfect. We want to see more entries on our most excellent iPhone list, but we need improvements. So, with that in mind, we’ve compiled a wish list of things we’d like to see in the next version.
But first, you’ll get details about the expected release date and price and any other news and rumors. We don’t know much right now - though we have heard a few things. We will update this story if information becomes available, so check back soon.
iPhone SE 4 release date and price
It’s difficult to predict before iPhone SE 4 is released, unlike most phones, we don’t get a new one every year. The iPhone SE 3 was released in March 2022. On the other hand, iPhone SE 2 was released in April 2020, and the first model was released in March 2016.
So a March or April launch is likely, but the exact year is more unclear. However, there are some reports, with Ross Young (a reliable leaker) stating that we could see it as soon as 2023 (opens in new tab), albeit he previously stated 2024.
There’s no word on pricing, but we’d imagine it to be similar to the iPhone SE 2022, which starts at $429 / £419 / AU$719. However, reports suggest that there will be considerable improvements, which may result in a slight price increase.
News and leaks
According to Ross Young (a leaker)(opens in new tab), the screen of the iPhone SE 4 will be between 5.7 and 6.1 inches. This is an increase from the current model’s 4.7-inch display, albeit it will presumably remain LCD.
Since then, they’ve become more detailed, claiming that a 6.1-inch screen will be used and that the iPhone SE 4 will feature a notch rather than the present design with large bezels.
That could indicate the addition of Face ID, but it’s also possible that Apple will stay with Touch ID and simply house the sensor in a side button rather than on the front.
Unofficial renders of the phone’s supposed design have now emerged, and they match the features above - as well as looking nearly identical to the iPhone XR. Some of these photographs are shown below.

In addition to these images, the source states that the iPhone SE 4 will have a 6.1-inch screen and will be available in Midnight (black), Starlight (white), and Product RED colors.
An earlier report from the same source(opens in new tab) stated that the iPhone SE 4 would have a punch-hole instead of a notch, but while the iPhone 14 Pro has this change, we’d be surprised if the next SE did.
Young had earlier claimed that the most likely size would be 5.7 inches (opens in new tab), so their iPhone SE 4 leaks haven’t been very consistent. As a result, we’d take any of these assertions with a grain of salt.
Ming-Chi Kuo (an analyst with a strong track record for Apple information) has also stated in a note seen by MacRumors(opens in a new tab) that the iPhone SE 4 will have 4GB of RAM (which is the same amount as the iPhone SE 3 has – though at the time Kuo predicted 3GB for the current model, so take this with a pinch of salt).
The iPhone SE 4 will almost definitely support 5G (like the SE 3 does), and it will almost certainly have a new chipset - but which one will depend on when it is released.
